Luke 2: Born to you today

Read Luke 2:1-52 before you meet.

In a few lines

The first words Luke gives from Jesus answer his mother's "your father and I" (2:48) with "my Father’s house" (2:49), and Luke says, "They didn’t understand the saying" (2:50). And Luke never says the angels sang: they were "praising God and saying" (2:13).

The verse to carry

“For there is born to you today, in David’s city, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2:11

To talk about

  1. 1. The shepherds said, "Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened" (2:15), and "They came with haste" (2:16). What would it look like for you this week to go and see for yourself, and not only hear about Jesus from others?

  2. 2. Simeon was "looking for the consolation of Israel" (2:25), and Anna "didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day" (2:37). What helps you keep looking to God when what you're waiting for is slow to come?

  3. 3. Luke says, "They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them" (2:50), and that his mother "kept all these sayings in her heart" (2:51). What is something about Jesus you're still turning over, and how could you keep it rather than set it aside?
