Luke 19: To seek and to save

Read Luke 19:1-48 before you meet.

In a few lines

Zacchaeus was trying to see who Jesus was (19:3), and Jesus says the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost (19:10). In Luke's Greek the same verb is behind both, and it comes once more, with the verb behind lost, when the chief priests, the scribes and the leading men sought to destroy him (19:47).

The verse to carry

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Luke 19:10

To talk about

  1. 1. Zacchaeus "was trying to see who Jesus was" and "climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him" (19:3-4). What has helped you see Jesus more clearly, and what gets in the way?

  2. 2. Jesus says, "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost" (19:10). What difference does it make to you that the Son of Man came to seek?

  3. 3. Luke ends the chapter, "all the people hung on to every word that he said" (19:48). Which of Jesus's words in this chapter do you most want to hold on to this week, and why?
