Luke 18: Always pray and not give up
Read Luke 18:1-43 before you meet.
In a few lines
Luke says why before the first story begins, "that they must always pray and not give up" (18:1), and to whom before the second, "certain people who were convinced of their own righteousness" (18:9). And words of one Greek family, as Strong's traces them, stand in both, from the widow's "Defend me" (18:3) to the man who "went down to his house justified" (18:14).
The verse to carry
“But he said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.””
Luke 18:27
To talk about
1. The widow "often came" to the judge with one request (18:3), and Luke says Jesus told the story "that they must always pray and not give up" (18:1). What is one thing you have kept bringing to God, and what keeps you bringing it?
2. The tax collector prayed, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner!" (18:13). What would you say to God this week if you prayed in so few words?
3. When those who led the way told the blind man to be quiet, "he cried out all the more" (18:39). What tries to quiet you when you want to call on Jesus, and what helps you keep calling?
