Luke 10: Go and do likewise

Read Luke 10:1-42 before you meet.

In a few lines

The lawyer asked, "Who is my neighbor?" Jesus answered with a story and asked him which of the three "seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers". From "what shall I do" to "Do this", "He who showed mercy" and "Go and do likewise", the Greek has one verb behind do and showed.

The verse to carry

“He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.””

Luke 10:27

To talk about

  1. 1. Jesus told the seventy, "don’t rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven" (10:20). What do you find yourself rejoicing in most, and what would it look like to rejoice in this?

  2. 2. Jesus asked which of the three "seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers" (10:36), and said, "Go and do likewise" (10:37). Who has been that kind of neighbor to you, and to whom could you show mercy this week?

  3. 3. Jesus said, "you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed" (10:41-42). What are the many things that crowd out time hearing his word, and what helps you make room for it?
