Leviticus 7: The sacrifice of thanksgiving
Read Leviticus 7 before you meet.
In a few lines
The priests ate the trespass offering (7:6) and kept the skin of the burnt offering (7:8), and a thanksgiving came with leavened bread (7:13). Meat eaten on the third day "shall not be credited to him who offers it" (7:18): the same Hebrew verb as "credited it to him for righteousness" (Genesis 15:6).
The verse to carry
“If he offers it for a thanksgiving, then he shall offer with the sacrifice of thanksgiving unleavened cakes mixed with oil, and unleavened wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mixed with oil.”
Leviticus 7:12
To talk about
1. A peace offering could be brought "for a thanksgiving" (7:12), and it was eaten the same day (7:15). If you brought a thanksgiving this week, what would it be for, and who would you share it with?
2. "I will pay my vows to the LORD, yes, in the presence of all his people" (Psalm 116:18). Is there a promise you've made to God that you haven't kept yet? What would keeping it look like?
3. The priests lived from the altar (7:34-36), and Jesus said, "the laborer is worthy of his wages" (Luke 10:7). Who serves you and your group with God's word, and how could you look after them?
