Leviticus 6: It shall not go out
Read Leviticus 6 before you meet.
In a few lines
Cheating a neighbor is "a trespass against the LORD" (6:2): the wrong is repaid in full with a fifth added, and only then comes the offering (6:5-6). From 6:9 the law turns to the priests: the altar fire "shall not go out" (6:13), the priests eat what is "most holy" in a holy place, and a sin offering whose blood entered the Tent is burned, not eaten (6:30).
The verse to carry
“Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.”
Leviticus 6:13
To talk about
1. In 6:2, dealing falsely with a neighbor is also "a trespass against the LORD". How does it change things to see a wrong against a person as a wrong against God too?
2. The one who had wronged his neighbor paid back what he took, and a fifth more, before he brought his offering (6:5-6). What makes it hard to put things right with someone? What helps?
3. The fire was fed with wood every morning, and it was never to go out (6:12-13). What keeps your faith going on ordinary days, and what lets it burn low?
