Leviticus 20: Set apart to be mine
Read Leviticus 20 before you meet.
In a few lines
Leviticus 20 sets penalties for many of the wrongs chapter 18 forbade, and frames them with holiness: "be holy" and "I am the LORD who sanctifies you" (20:7-8), and "You shall be holy to me… that you should be mine" (20:26). Even the people who look away from a wrong are answered: "then I will set my face against that man" (20:5).
The verse to carry
“You shall be holy to me, for I, the LORD, am holy, and have set you apart from the peoples, that you should be mine.”
Leviticus 20:26
To talk about
1. The LORD says both "be holy" (20:7) and "I am the LORD who sanctifies you" (20:8). How do you hold together what God asks of you and what he does in you?
2. "that you should be mine" (20:26). What difference does it make to know you belong to God, not only that he has rules for you?
3. Jesus said to the woman, "Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more" (John 8:11). Which half of that is harder for you to hear?
