Leviticus 2: A handful on the fire
Read Leviticus 2 before you meet.
In a few lines
The meal offering is a minchah, the word for Cain's and Abel's offerings (Genesis 4:3-5). Only a handful, its "memorial", was burned; the rest was "most holy" food for the priests (2:2-3). Yeast and honey could be brought as first fruits but never burned on the altar (2:11-12), and salt went with every offering (2:13).
The verse to carry
“Every offering of your meal offering you shall season with salt. You shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking from your meal offering. With all your offerings you shall offer salt.”
Leviticus 2:13
To talk about
1. The meal offering could come as plain flour, or baked in an oven, on a griddle or in a pan (2:1-7). What ordinary part of your week could you offer to God?
2. "You shall not allow the salt of the covenant of your God to be lacking" (2:13). What helps you remember God's promises on ordinary days, and what makes you forget them?
3. The first fruits of the harvest were brought to the LORD (2:14). What would it look like for you to give God the first of something this week, not what's left over?
