Leviticus 11: For I am holy
Read Leviticus 11 before you meet.
In a few lines
Leviticus 11 sorts the animals by signs (a parted hoof and the cud, fins and scales), lists the birds, allows the locust, and says what a carcass makes unclean by touch. It gives one reason, the LORD himself: "be holy; for I am holy" (11:44). Peter quotes that call to people redeemed "with precious blood… the blood of Christ" (1 Peter 1:19).
The verse to carry
“For I am the LORD who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”
Leviticus 11:45
To talk about
1. These laws reached every meal Israel ate (11:2). What ordinary part of your week could remind you that you belong to God?
2. Jesus said, "All these evil things come from within and defile the man" (Mark 7:23). Which do you find easier to guard: what goes into you, or what comes out of you?
3. Peter says to be holy "in all of your behavior" (1 Peter 1:15). Where in your life does that feel hardest right now?
