Leviticus 10: Those who come near me

Read Leviticus 10 before you meet.

In a few lines

Leviticus 9 ends with fire from before the LORD consuming the offering. The same words open 10:2, and this time the fire devours Aaron's sons, who offered fire the LORD "had not commanded them" (10:1). The LORD's word: "I will show myself holy to those who come near me" (10:3). Aaron's first response is silence: "Aaron held his peace" (10:3).

The verse to carry

“Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD spoke of, saying, ‘I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” Aaron held his peace.”

Leviticus 10:3

To talk about

  1. 1. "Aaron held his peace" (10:3). Have you ever had no words before God? What was that silence like for you?

  2. 2. The priests were to "make a distinction between the holy and the common" (10:10). What in your week do you treat as common that God might call holy?

  3. 3. Aaron answered Moses, and "it was pleasing in his sight" (10:20). Who in your life can you speak to that plainly, even when you have to explain why you didn't do what was expected?
