Judges 4: Into a woman's hand
Read Judges 4:1-24 before you meet.
In a few lines
The LORD "sold" Israel into Jabin's hand (4:2), and Deborah said he would "sell" Sisera "into a woman’s hand" (4:9): the same verb. Sisera died in Jael's tent (4:21-22). And the book says Deborah "judged Israel" (4:4) but never says it of Barak; the chapter gives the day to the LORD: "God subdued Jabin" (4:23).
The verse to carry
“Deborah said to Barak, “Go; for this is the day in which the LORD has delivered Sisera into your hand. Hasn’t the LORD gone out before you?” So Barak went down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.”
Judges 4:14
To talk about
1. Israel "cried to the LORD" under an enemy with nine hundred chariots of iron (4:3). What is the thing you most need to bring to God right now, and what keeps you from bringing it?
2. Barak said he would go only if Deborah went with him (4:8). Is there someone whose faith you lean on? When has that helped you, and when might it hold you back?
3. Deborah asked Barak, "Hasn’t the LORD gone out before you?" (4:14). Where in the week ahead do you most need to hear that question?
