Judges 17: A Levite as my priest
Read Judges 17:1-13 before you meet.
In a few lines
Micah's images were made "to the LORD" (17:3), and he was sure "the LORD will do good to me, since I have a Levite as my priest" (17:13). Between the two the chapter sets "Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes" (17:6), the very thing Moses told Israel not to do (Deuteronomy 12:8).
The verse to carry
“In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes.”
Judges 17:6
To talk about
1. "Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes" (17:6). Where are you most tempted to decide what's right by what seems right to you?
2. Micah said, "Now I know that the LORD will do good to me" (17:13), since he had a Levite as his priest. What do people lean on to feel sure God is pleased with them, and what does Scripture say really matters?
3. Micah's mother dedicated her silver "to the LORD" (17:3), and used it to make images. How can something done in God's name still be done our own way?
