Judges 15: The jawbone and the spring
Read Judges 15:1-20 before you meet.
In a few lines
The Philistines came "to do to him as he has done to us" (15:10), and Samson said, "As they did to me, so I have done to them" (15:11). It was men of Judah who bound him and handed him over (15:12-13). And after the jawbone, the man who "called on the LORD" in his thirst (15:18) drank from a spring God split open, En Hakkore (15:19).
The verse to carry
“He was very thirsty, and called on the LORD and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die of thirst, and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?””
Judges 15:18
To talk about
1. "As they did to me, so I have done to them" (15:11). Where do you see paying back going round and round, in a family, a friendship or at work? What would it take to be the one who stops it?
2. The men of Judah bound Samson because "the Philistines are rulers over us" (15:11). When have you felt pressure to go along with someone who has power over you, just to keep the peace? How did you decide what to do?
3. Right after the jawbone, Samson was so thirsty he feared he would die, and he "called on the LORD" (15:18). Why do you think low moments sometimes come right after high ones, and who or what do you turn to then?
