Judges 14: Out of the strong came out sweetness
Read Judges 14:1-20 before you meet.
In a few lines
Samson's parents didn't know "that it was of the LORD; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines" (14:4). And nobody solved his riddle: the answer came through his wife, threatened with fire, and Samson said so: "If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle" (14:18).
The verse to carry
“He said to them, “Out of the eater came out food. Out of the strong came out sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.”
Judges 14:14
To talk about
1. Samson's reason was "she pleases me well" (14:3), in Hebrew *right in my eyes*. When have you chosen something mainly because it looked right to you, and how did it turn out?
2. His parents "didn’t know that it was of the LORD" (14:4). Looking back, where have you seen God at work in something you didn't understand at the time?
3. Samson kept the lion and the honey to himself (14:6, 14:9). Is there something you keep from the people closest to you? What would it take to tell them?
