Joshua 3: The waters stood

Read Joshua 3:1-17 before you meet.

In a few lines

Israel crossed the Jordan in flood (3:15). The waters stopped only when the priests' feet dipped into the edge, and they heaped up "a great way off, at Adam" (3:16). "Heap" is the Hebrew word of the song at the Red Sea (Exodus 15:8). And the people kept back from the ark "that you may know the way" (3:4).

The verse to carry

“Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.””

Joshua 3:5

To talk about

  1. 1. "You have not passed this way before" (3:4). Where in your life are you on a way you haven't been before, and what helps you see where to go?

  2. 2. "Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you" (3:5). What would getting ready for God to act look like for you this week?

  3. 3. The priests "stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan" until "all the nation had passed completely over" (3:17). Who has stayed in place for you until you were through something, and for whom could you do that?
