Joshua 23: Not one thing has failed

Read Joshua 23:1-16 before you meet.

In a few lines

Joshua 23 turns on one verb: "hold fast to the LORD your God" (23:8), or "hold fast to the remnant of these nations" (23:12). And it weighs the LORD's word both ways: not one of the good things he spoke has failed (23:14), and as the good things came, so the evil things would come if Israel served other gods (23:15-16).

The verse to carry

“Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God.”

Joshua 23:11

To talk about

  1. 1. Joshua could say, "not one thing has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you" (23:14). Looking back over your own life, what good things from God can you name?

  2. 2. Joshua says, "hold fast to the LORD your God" (23:8), and warns against holding fast to the nations that remained (23:12). What pulls hardest at you right now, and what would holding fast to God look like this week?

  3. 3. "Take good heed therefore to yourselves, that you love the LORD your God" (23:11). Joshua speaks of love as something to guard. What has helped your love for God grow, and what tends to cool it?
