Joshua 18: Seven portions in a book
Read Joshua 18:1-28 before you meet.
In a few lines
The Tent of Meeting was set up at Shiloh, the first time the Hebrew Bible names the town, and the land lay subdued, yet seven tribes hadn't taken what the LORD had given. Men walked the land and wrote it in a book, and lots were cast before the LORD. Benjamin's lot, between Judah and Joseph, reached Kiriath Jearim and held Gibeon and Jerusalem, where the ark and the tent would later stand.
The verse to carry
“Joshua said to the children of Israel, “How long will you neglect to go in to possess the land, which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?”
Joshua 18:3
To talk about
1. "How long will you neglect to go in to possess the land, which the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?" (18:3). What has God already given you that you haven't yet taken hold of? What keeps you waiting?
2. Before the land was shared out, the men walked it and wrote it down in a book (18:8-9). How could writing down what God has given you, or done for you, help you see it clearly?
3. The lots were cast "before the LORD" (18:6, 18:10). What decision are you facing that you want to bring before the LORD instead of settling on your own? What would that look like this week?
