Joshua 17: Not one lot only
Read Joshua 17:1-18 before you meet.
In a few lines
Joshua 17 keeps a promise made in the wilderness: five sisters reminded Eleazar and Joshua, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance", and got it (17:4). And when a numerous people complained of one lot, Joshua gave them more, and the work to go with it: a forest to clear (17:15, 17:18), with the verb of "God created" in Genesis 1:1.
The verse to carry
“They came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes, saying, “The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.”
Joshua 17:4
To talk about
1. The daughters of Zelophehad came to the new leaders and said, "The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance" (17:4). What has God said in Scripture that you want to hold on to, and ask him for, this week?
2. The Canaanites "would dwell in that land", and Israel "didn’t utterly drive them out" (17:12-13). What have you learned to live alongside in your life that you once meant to be rid of?
3. Joseph asked for more land; Joshua said, in effect, you are strong, so clear the forest (17:15, 17:17-18). Where might God be asking you to use what you already have, rather than wait for something easier?
