Joshua 10: The day the LORD listened
Read Joshua 10:1-43 before you meet.
In a few lines
The day the sun stood still began with Gibeon's peace: five kings attacked Gibeon for making peace with Israel, and Joshua marched all night to save the people who had deceived him (10:4-9). And 10:14 remembers the day not first for the sun, but because "the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel."
The verse to carry
“There was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel.”
Joshua 10:14
To talk about
1. Gibeon had deceived Israel (9:22), yet when they called, "Don’t abandon your servants!" (10:6), Joshua marched all night to help. When is it hard to help someone who hasn't dealt straight with you?
2. The LORD told Joshua, "Don’t fear them" (10:8), and Joshua said to his men, "Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous" (10:25). Who has passed courage on to you, and who might need you to pass it on to them?
3. "The LORD listened to the voice of a man" (10:14). What would you ask God for this week if you were sure he was listening?
