Joshua 1: Arise, go across this Jordan
Read Joshua 1:1-18 before you meet.
In a few lines
"Meditate" in 1:8 is a Hebrew verb used both for murmuring and for musing, and it comes right after "shall not depart from your mouth". In the WEB, only Psalm 1:2 also has someone meditate "day and night". And the chapter ends with the LORD's words given back to Joshua by those he leads: "Only be strong and courageous" (1:18).
The verse to carry
“Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
To talk about
1. "This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night" (1:8). What would keeping God's words close, day and night, actually look like in your week?
2. The people said to their new leader, "Only be strong and courageous" (1:18). Who has said words like that to you when you needed them, and who could you say them to now?
3. The eastern tribes already had their land, but were to cross and help "until the LORD has given your brothers rest, as he has given you" (1:15). Where might you be asked to keep helping others after your own need has been met?
