John 9: One thing I do know

Read John 9:1-41 before you meet.

In a few lines

When the man came back seeing (9:7) and was asked where Jesus was, he said, "I don’t know" (9:12). The next time the chapter brings them together, Jesus finds him after he was thrown out and says, "You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you" (9:37).

The verse to carry

“While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

John 9:5

To talk about

  1. 1. "One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see" (9:25). The man didn't have every answer, but he knew one thing. What is one thing you know about Jesus, even while other questions stay open?

  2. 2. His parents said, "He is of age. Ask him" (9:23), because "they feared" (9:22). When is it hardest for you to say what you know about Jesus?

  3. 3. Through the chapter the man speaks of Jesus in different words: "A man called Jesus" (9:11), "He is a prophet" (9:17), "Lord, I believe!" (9:38). How has the way you speak about Jesus changed over time?
