John 8: The light of the world
Read John 8:1-59 before you meet.
In a few lines
When the Pharisees told Jesus, "Your testimony is not valid" (8:13), and he answered, "my testimony is true" (8:14), valid and true were the same Greek word. And when they asked how they would be made free (8:33), he answered, "everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin" (8:34).
The verse to carry
“Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.””
John 8:31-32
To talk about
1. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life" (8:12). Where would you most like his light this week?
2. "If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples" (8:31). What would remaining in his word look like on an ordinary day for you?
3. Jesus said, "But I don’t seek my own glory" (8:50), and "It is my Father who glorifies me" (8:54). Where do you find it hard not to seek your own glory?
