John 4: Living water
Read John 4:1-54 before you meet.
In a few lines
At the well Jesus offers "living water" (4:10), and at the end of the chapter he tells the nobleman, "Your son lives" (4:50): in Greek it is the same verb. And the first time in John's Gospel that Jesus says "I am he", he says it to a woman of Samaria (4:26), whose word brought many of her city to believe (4:39).
The verse to carry
“but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
John 4:14
To talk about
1. The woman said to the people of the city, "Come, see a man who told me everything that I have done" (4:29). Who first told you about Jesus, and what made you come and see?
2. The Samaritans told the woman, "Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves" (4:42). What is the difference between believing because someone told you and hearing for yourself?
3. When his disciples urged him to eat, Jesus said, "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work" (4:34). What do you think he meant, and what do his words say to you?
