John 3: Born anew

Read John 3:1-36 before you meet.

In a few lines

John's Gospel remembers Nicodemus as the man who came by night: "Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night" (19:39). And the verb of "For God so loved the world" (3:16) comes again three verses later: "men loved the darkness rather than the light" (3:19).

The verse to carry

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

To talk about

  1. 1. Nicodemus began with what he knew (3:2), and soon he was asking, "How can these things be?" (3:9). What question about Jesus would you honestly bring to him this week?

  2. 2. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son" (3:16). If this were the only verse you could show someone about God, what would you want them to hear in it?

  3. 3. John said, "He must increase, but I must decrease" (3:30). Where in your week could those words be true of you?
