John 19: It is finished
Read John 19:1-42 before you meet.
In a few lines
In the WEB's John, the words crucify and cross come only in this chapter. Pilate says three times, “I find no basis for a charge against him” (18:38; 19:4, 19:6). And in the Greek, the finished of “seeing that all things were now finished” (19:28) is the same word as Jesus's “It is finished!” (19:30).
The verse to carry
“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”
John 19:30
To talk about
1. Pilate brought Jesus out and said, "Behold, the man!" (19:5). As you read this chapter, what do you see when you look at Jesus?
2. Jesus said, "It is finished!" (19:30). What do those words stir in you as you finish reading the chapter?
3. John says the one who saw "tells the truth, that you may believe" (19:35). What in this chapter helps you believe, and what is still hard for you?
