John 15: I am the true vine
Read John 15:1-27 before you meet.
In a few lines
Remain comes twelve times in this chapter's Greek, and not only of them remaining in Jesus: "that my joy may remain in you" (15:11), and "that your fruit should remain" (15:16). And when Jesus said, "lay down his life for his friends" (15:13), and then "I chose you and appointed you" (15:16), lay down and appointed were the same Greek verb.
The verse to carry
“I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
To talk about
1. Jesus said, "Remain in me, and I in you" (15:4). What helps you stay close to him on an ordinary day?
2. "This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you" (15:12). Where do you find it hardest to love that way right now?
3. Jesus said, "But I have called you friends" (15:15). What changes for you when you hear him say that?
