John 12: The time has come
Read John 12:1-50 before you meet.
In a few lines
At Bethany Jesus says of Mary, "She has kept this for the day of my burial" (12:7). His disciples "didn’t understand these things at first", and remembered them "when Jesus was glorified" (12:16). And "lifted up from the earth" was, John's Gospel says, "signifying by what kind of death he should die" (12:33), words it gives again in 18:32, where it says the word of Jesus was fulfilled.
The verse to carry
“Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.”
John 12:24
To talk about
1. Mary "anointed Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair" (12:3), and Jesus said, "Leave her alone" (12:7). What stands out to you about what she did, and about what Jesus said?
2. Some came to Philip and said, "Sir, we want to see Jesus" (12:21). What helps you see Jesus more clearly as you read?
3. Jesus said, "If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be" (12:26). What would following him look like in your week?
