John 11: The resurrection and the life
Read John 11:1-57 before you meet.
In a few lines
The sisters' message asks Jesus for nothing: "Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick" (11:3). Martha and Mary meet him with the same first words (11:21, 11:32). And the high priest who said "one man should die for the people" is the one the Gospel says "prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation" (11:50-51).
The verse to carry
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?””
John 11:25-26
To talk about
1. Jesus said to Martha, "I am the resurrection and the life" (11:25), and asked her, "Do you believe this?" (11:26). What would it change in your week to hear his question as asked of you?
2. "Jesus wept" (11:35). What does it mean to you that John's Gospel tells you this?
3. Jesus said, "Take away the stone" (11:39), and they took it away (11:41). When Lazarus came out, he said to them, "Free him, and let him go" (11:44). What stands out to you in what Jesus asked the people there to do?
