John 1: In the beginning was the Word
Read John 1:1-51 before you meet.
In a few lines
John's Gospel has grace only in 1:14-17, and the WEB gives Word a capital only in 1:1 and 1:14. And one brings another: Andrew finds his brother Simon and brings him to Jesus, Philip finds Nathanael, and Philip answers him with the words Jesus spoke: "Come and see" (1:39, 1:46).
The verse to carry
“The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:14
To talk about
1. Jesus turned to the two who followed him and asked, "What are you looking for?" (1:38). If he asked you that today, what would you say?
2. Andrew found his brother and "brought him to Jesus" (1:42), and Philip told Nathanael, "Come and see" (1:46). Who first said something like "come and see" to you, and who might you say it to?
3. "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it" (1:5). Where do you most need those words this week?
