Job 42: Now my eye sees you
Read Job 42:1-17 before you meet.
In a few lines
In Job's last words, repent (42:6) is in Hebrew the verb the WEB gives as comfort or console everywhere else in Job, in another form, down to his family who "consoled him" (42:11). And the man who said life is "few days, and full of trouble" (14:1) dies "old and full of days" (42:17): the same Hebrew word for full.
The verse to carry
“I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.”
Job 42:5
To talk about
1. "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you" (42:5). What's the difference, for you, between hearing about God and knowing him for yourself?
2. Job prays for the three friends whose speeches he had answered through most of the book (42:8-10). Who is hard for you to pray for right now, and what would it take to start?
3. His brothers, his sisters and those who had known him before came, "ate bread with him in his house" and comforted him (42:11). Who has sat at your table after a hard time, and who might need you at theirs?
