Job 36: Who is a teacher like him?
Read Job 36:1-33 before you meet.
In a few lines
The vapor Elihu says rain distills from (36:27) is a Hebrew word found only here and in the "mist" of Genesis 2:6, when "the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth" (Genesis 2:5). And the "lightning" God covers his hands with (36:32) is, in Hebrew, the word for light, the light of 36:30.
The verse to carry
“Behold, God is great, and we don’t know him. The number of his years is unsearchable.”
Job 36:26
To talk about
1. "Who is a teacher like him?" (36:22). What has God taught you that you don't think you could have learned any other way?
2. A psalm says, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted" (Psalm 119:71), and the LORD said to Satan, "you incited me against him, to ruin him without cause" (Job 2:3). How do you hold both of those when someone you love is suffering?
3. "Behold, God is great, and we don’t know him" (36:26). What do you do with the things about God you can't understand?
