Job 31: Here is my signature

Read Job 31:1-40 before you meet.

In a few lines

Job asks to be weighed in "an even balance" (31:6), in Hebrew the law's own "just balances" (Leviticus 19:36). He signs his case, "Behold, here is my signature!" (31:35), adds one more if, about his land (31:38-40), and then the book, not Job, says, "The words of Job are ended" (31:40).

The verse to carry

“I made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?”

Job 31:1

To talk about

  1. 1. "I made a covenant with my eyes" (31:1). What promise have you made, or could you make, about where your eyes and heart go?

  2. 2. "Didn’t he who made me in the womb make him?" (31:15). Whose cause is easiest for you to overlook, and what would change if you remembered who made them?

  3. 3. "If I have made gold my hope" (31:24). Apart from money, what are you most tempted to call your confidence?
