Job 28: Where will wisdom be found?
Read Job 28:1-28 before you meet.
In a few lines
The miner brings "the thing that is hidden" to light (28:11), but wisdom "is hidden from the eyes of all living" (28:21), and Strong's gives the first word as coming from the second's verb. God "searched it out" (28:27), the miner's verb in 28:3, and "To depart from evil" (28:28) has, in Hebrew, the verb and the word for evil of 1:1's "turned away from evil".
The verse to carry
“To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”
Job 28:28
To talk about
1. Man digs out silver, gold and sapphires and brings "the thing that is hidden" to light (28:11). Then the chapter asks, "But where will wisdom be found?" (28:12). When you face a hard decision, where do you tend to look first for wisdom?
2. Wisdom "can’t be gotten for gold, neither will silver be weighed for its price" (28:15). What have you learned that no amount of money could have taught you?
3. "Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding" (28:28). The chapter's answer is a way of living, not a place. What does turning away from evil look like in an ordinary week for you?
