Job 25: How can man be just with God?
Read Job 25:1-6 before you meet.
In a few lines
Bildad's "How then can man be just with God?" (25:4) is Job's own question from chapter 9 in the same five Hebrew words (9:2). And his "man, who is a worm" (25:6) uses two different Hebrew words for worm, which stand together in only one other verse of the Hebrew Bible, Isaiah 14:11.
The verse to carry
“How then can man be just with God? Or how can he who is born of a woman be clean?”
Job 25:4
To talk about
1. Job asked, "how can man be just with God?" (9:2), and Bildad asks it again (25:4). How would you put that question in your own words, and what answers have you been given to it?
2. Bildad sets the moon and the stars beside God (25:5), and a psalm does too (Psalm 8:3-4). When has something in creation made you feel small, and was that a good feeling or a hard one?
3. Jesus said that whoever hears his word and believes the one who sent him "doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life" (John 5:24). What difference would it make to your week to believe that?
