Job 15: Your own mouth condemns you
Read Job 15:1-35 before you meet.
In a few lines
Eliphaz's "Your own mouth condemns you" (15:6) is nearly Job's own "my own mouth will condemn me" (9:20), and his "he puts no trust in his holy ones" (15:15) is nearly what the voice in the night had said (4:18), now said by Eliphaz himself.
The verse to carry
“What is man, that he should be clean? What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?”
Job 15:14
To talk about
1. Job had said, "my own mouth will condemn me" (9:20), and later Eliphaz said to him, "Your own mouth condemns you" (15:6). When someone in pain says hard things, how do you keep from holding their words against them?
2. "Are the consolations of God too small for you, even the word that is gentle toward you?" (15:11). When have you been given words meant as comfort that didn't comfort you? What would have helped instead?
3. Eliphaz leaned on what the aged and the fathers had told (15:10, 15:18). How do you weigh what you have always been taught against what you are living through, and where does Scripture come in?
