Job 13: I desire to reason with God

Read Job 13:1-28 before you meet.

In a few lines

Job's "Why do you hide your face" (13:24) is the same three Hebrew words as Psalm 44:24. And his "You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths" (13:27) comes back almost word for word from Elihu (33:11), as words he says he heard Job speak; in the whole Hebrew Bible the word for stocks comes only in those two verses.

The verse to carry

“Surely I would speak to the Almighty. I desire to reason with God.”

Job 13:3

To talk about

  1. 1. "Oh that you would be completely silent! Then you would be wise" (13:5). When have you been with someone in pain and found that saying less was better? What did help?

  2. 2. "Surely I would speak to the Almighty. I desire to reason with God" (13:3). Do you feel free to bring your honest questions to God? What makes that easier or harder for you?

  3. 3. Job asks God, "Make me know my disobedience and my sin" (13:23). Have you ever prayed something like that? What happened?
