Job 1: Does Job fear God for nothing?
Read Job 1:1-22 before you meet.
In a few lines
Satan said Job would renounce God to his face (1:11); after the four messengers, Job said, "Blessed be the LORD’s name" (1:21). In Hebrew, renounce and Blessed are one verb, barakh. And it was the LORD, not Satan, who first spoke of Job: "Have you considered my servant, Job?" (1:8).
The verse to carry
“He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the LORD’s name.””
Job 1:21
To talk about
1. Satan asked, "Does Job fear God for nothing?" (1:9). If you're honest, how much of your faith is tied to what God gives you?
2. Job rose early and "offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all", and "Job did so continually" (1:5). Who do you carry to God, and how do you do it?
3. After his loss Job said, "The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away. Blessed be the LORD’s name" (1:21). What helps you keep turning toward God when something is taken from you, and what makes it hard?
