James 5: Be patient
Read James 5:1-20 before you meet.
In a few lines
James 5 tells the brothers "Be patient" (5:7) with the one Greek verb it also uses of the farmer, "being patient over it" (5:7). And the letter's last part still speaks to its brothers: "Brothers, if any among you wanders from the truth" (5:19).
The verse to carry
“You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.”
James 5:8
To talk about
1. "Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it" (5:7). What helps you be patient with something you can't make happen any faster?
2. "Don’t grumble, brothers, against one another" (5:9). What helps a group like ours keep from grumbling against one another?
3. "Is any among you suffering? Let him pray. Is any cheerful? Let him sing praises." (5:13). How could our group make room both for prayer in hard weeks and for praise in glad ones?
