James 3: Out of the same mouth
Read James 3:1-18 before you meet.
In a few lines
The tongue is "a little member" (3:5), set beside the bits in a horse’s mouth and a ship’s "very small rudder" (3:4). And bitter in "fresh and bitter water" (3:11) and in "bitter jealousy" (3:14) is one Greek word, found in the New Testament in these two verses only.
The verse to carry
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
James 3:17
To talk about
1. "Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so." (3:10). What helps you weigh your words before you speak them?
2. "Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom." (3:13). Where have you seen wisdom shown more by what someone did than by what they said?
3. "Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace." (3:18). What does making peace look like in a group like ours?
