Isaiah 66: Heaven is my throne

Read Isaiah 66:1-24 before you meet.

In a few lines

In Isaiah 66 the one whose throne is heaven says whom he looks to: "he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word" (66:2), where contrite is a Hebrew word used elsewhere only of a man "lame in his feet" (2 Samuel 9:3). And the book's last comfort is the LORD's own: "As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you" (66:13).

The verse to carry

“For my hand has made all these things, and so all these things came to be,” says the LORD: “but I will look to this man, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.”

Isaiah 66:2

To talk about

  1. 1. "but I will look to this man, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word" (66:2). What do you think it looks like to tremble at the LORD's word?

  2. 2. "As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you" (66:13). What does this picture of the LORD's comfort mean to you?

  3. 3. "they shall declare my glory among the nations" (66:19). What does it mean to you that the book, near its end, speaks of the LORD's glory told to those "who have not heard my fame" (66:19)?
