Isaiah 6: I saw the Lord
Read Isaiah 6:1-13 before you meet.
In a few lines
Only in Isaiah 6:3 does the Hebrew Bible say holy three times in a row. The coal touched the very lips Isaiah had called unclean (6:5, 6:7), and he was forgiven before he was sent (6:7-8). And John says Isaiah said these things "when he saw his glory, and spoke of him" (John 12:41).
The verse to carry
“I heard the Lord’s voice, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!””
Isaiah 6:8
To talk about
1. "Woe is me! … for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of Armies!" (6:5). Isaiah's first words after seeing the Lord were about himself. What has helped you see yourself more honestly?
2. "your iniquity is taken away, and your sin forgiven" (6:7) comes before "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" (6:8). What difference does it make to hear you are forgiven before anything is asked of you?
3. Given a hard word to carry, Isaiah asked, "Lord, how long?" (6:11). What helps you keep praying when an answer is slow or hard to hear?
