Isaiah 50: Morning by morning

Read Isaiah 50:1-11 before you meet.

In a few lines

In 50:4 the tongue and the ear are both "of those who are taught", one Hebrew word twice, with the ear woken "morning by morning". And in 50:6-7 the face not hidden "from shame and spitting" is the face set "like a flint", while Strong's traces that shame to the verb of "I have not been confounded".

The verse to carry

“The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him who is weary. He awakens morning by morning, he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.”

Isaiah 50:4

To talk about

  1. 1. "He awakens morning by morning, he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught" (50:4). What helps you listen before you speak, and what gets in the way?

  2. 2. "that I may know how to sustain with words him who is weary" (50:4). Think of someone who is weary this week. What words might help them?

  3. 3. "He who walks in darkness and has no light, let him trust in the LORD’s name, and rely on his God" (50:10). What does trusting look like when you can't yet see the way?
