Isaiah 5: The song of the vineyard
Read Isaiah 5:1-30 before you meet.
In a few lines
The song asks the men of Judah to judge between the owner and his vineyard (5:3) before it tells them they are its plant (5:7). And the LORD looked for mishpat, justice, and found mispach, oppression; for tsedaqah, righteousness, and found tse'aqah, a cry: in Hebrew each pair is spelled almost alike.
The verse to carry
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
Isaiah 5:20
To talk about
1. "What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it?" (5:4). What has God done for you that you most easily forget?
2. "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil" (5:20). What helps you see a wrong thing clearly when everyone around calls it something kinder?
3. "Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes" (5:21). How do you notice when you've stopped listening because you are sure you're right?
