Isaiah 45: There is no one else

Read Isaiah 45:1-25 before you meet.

In a few lines

Six times Isaiah 45 has ve'ein od, "there is no one else". It calls Cyrus the LORD's "anointed" (45:1) and says twice, "though you have not known me" (45:4, 45:5). Paul gives the oath "to me every knee will bow" with "it is written" after "the judgment seat of Christ" (Romans 14:10-11), and Philippians has "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow" (Philippians 2:10).

The verse to carry

“Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.”

Isaiah 45:22

To talk about

  1. 1. Twice the LORD says to Cyrus, "though you have not known me" (45:4, 45:5), and yet "I have called you by your name" (45:4). What does it say to you that the LORD calls someone by name before they know him?

  2. 2. "Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth" (45:22). What helps you turn to God in an ordinary week?

  3. 3. The clay asks, "What are you making?" (45:9), and the same chapter says, "I didn’t say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek me in vain.’" (45:19). How would you tell the difference between striving with God and seeking him?
