Isaiah 4: The LORD's branch
Read Isaiah 4:1-6 before you meet.
In a few lines
In the first chapter the LORD told Jerusalem, "Wash yourselves" (1:16). In 4:4 the Lord himself has "washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion": in Hebrew the same verb, and Isaiah's only other use of it. And the beauty the Lord takes away "In that day" (3:18) is, in Hebrew, the word for the glory of the survivors of Israel "In that day" (4:2).
The verse to carry
“There will be a pavilion for a shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a refuge and for a shelter from storm and from rain.”
Isaiah 4:6
To talk about
1. The women of 4:1 plead, "Take away our reproach." Later Isaiah says the Lord GOD "will take the reproach of his people away from off all the earth" (25:8). What difference does it make to you that God is the one who takes reproach away?
2. In 1:16 the LORD says, "Wash yourselves," and in 4:4 the Lord does the washing. How do you hold those two together in your own walk with God?
3. 4:6 promises a shade from the heat, a refuge, and a shelter from storm and rain. When life turns stormy, where do you tend to look for shelter first?
