Isaiah 39: Nothing will be left

Read Isaiah 39:1-8 before you meet.

In a few lines

Isaiah tells the visit from Babylon in its own words: Hezekiah "was pleased with them" (39:2), where 2 Kings says he "listened to them" (2 Kings 20:13). After chapters about the king of Assyria, the LORD's word names Babylon: "Nothing will be left" (39:6). And the book's next words are "Comfort, comfort my people" (40:1).

The verse to carry

“Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The LORD’s word which you have spoken is good.” He said moreover, “For there will be peace and truth in my days.””

Isaiah 39:8

To talk about

  1. 1. "Hezekiah was pleased with them" (39:2), and there was nothing he didn't show them. The chapter doesn't say why. When people come into your home or your life, what do you find yourself showing them first?

  2. 2. Isaiah asked, "What have they seen in your house?" (39:4). If someone asked that of your life this week, what would you want the honest answer to be?

  3. 3. Hezekiah answered, "The LORD’s word which you have spoken is good" (39:8), and the chapter doesn't say what he was thinking. When a hard word from Scripture lands on you, what do you find yourself saying first, and what helps you listen to it?
