Isaiah 28: A precious cornerstone

Read Isaiah 28:1-29 before you meet.

In a few lines

Ephraim's crown of pride is trodden under foot, and two verses later the LORD of Armies becomes the crown of glory (28:1-5). And the stone laid in Zion (28:16) answers rulers who had made lies their refuge; Romans gives its words as "no one who believes in him will be disappointed" (Romans 9:33), of believing in Jesus.

The verse to carry

“Therefore the Lord GOD says, “Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone of a sure foundation. He who believes shall not act hastily.”

Isaiah 28:16

To talk about

  1. 1. "This is the resting place. Give rest to the weary" … "yet they would not hear" (28:12). What makes it hard to take the rest God offers?

  2. 2. The rulers said, "we have made lies our refuge" (28:15). What do people often lean on for safety that can't hold when trouble comes?

  3. 3. The farmer knows when to stop plowing and how to thresh each crop, and "his God instructs him" (28:26). What has God taught you through ordinary work or everyday life?
