Hebrews 8: Mediator of a better covenant
Read Hebrews 8:1-13 before you meet.
In a few lines
Hebrews names its main point: "we have such a high priest, who sat down on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens" (8:1). It calls him "the mediator of a better covenant" (8:6), and then gives words that say, "I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart" (8:10).
The verse to carry
“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says the Lord: “I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be my people.”
Hebrews 8:10
To talk about
1. "the main point is this: we have such a high priest" (8:1). If you had to say the main point of what you believe in one sentence, what would it be?
2. "I will put my laws into their mind; I will also write them on their heart." (8:10). Why do you think the verse names both the mind and the heart?
3. "For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness." (8:12). What makes mercy hard to receive, or easy?
