Hebrews 7: With an oath

Read Hebrews 7:1-28 before you meet.

In a few lines

Hebrews 7 sets priests "made priests without an oath" beside "he with an oath" (7:21), and goes on, "By so much, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant" (7:22). The Greek noun behind oath there is in no other chapter of the New Testament.

The verse to carry

“Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.”

Hebrews 7:25

To talk about

  1. 1. "a bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God" (7:19). What helps you draw near to God in an ordinary week?

  2. 2. "By so much, Jesus has become the guarantee of a better covenant." (7:22). What does it mean to you that the letter calls Jesus a *guarantee*?

  3. 3. "Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him" (7:25). Where in your life do you most need to hear these words?
