Hebrews 4: Living and active
Read Hebrews 4:1-16 before you meet.
In a few lines
Hebrews 4 opens with "Let’s fear therefore" (4:1), and its last verse begins "Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace" (4:16). On the way it gives chapter 3's Today again (4:7), and it names the high priest: "Jesus, the Son of God" (4:14).
The verse to carry
“Let’s therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need.”
Hebrews 4:16
To talk about
1. "but the word they heard didn’t profit them, because it wasn’t mixed with faith by those who heard" (4:2). What do you think it looks like for what we hear to be mixed with faith?
2. "There is no creature that is hidden from his sight" (4:13). Does that verse comfort you, unsettle you, or both? Why?
3. "that we may receive mercy and may find grace for help in time of need" (4:16). What makes it easier, or harder, for you to come to God for help?
